Its full title is: Clotel; or, The President’s Daughter: A Narrative of Slave Life in the United States. Considered the first American novel by an African-American, it is published in London, and written by a fugitive slave from Kentucky who had lived in Boston but then moved to England after passage of the Fugitive Slave Law.
